Job Description:
Lumwana Mining Company is looking for a highly motivated and committed Senior Safety Officer to join the Safety & Health Department. The ideal candidate should embody Barrick's core values and focus on implementing an Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) management system with a commitment to zero harm in the workplace.
Responsibilities:
1. Coordinate and implement LMC’s OHS management system to Barrick's standards.
2. Provide advice and support to LMC/Contractor’s operation teams.
3. Monitor and report on site incident trends, audit reports, and corrective actions.
4. Facilitate and participate in incident investigations, risk assessments, audits, workplace inspections, and safety forums.
5. Oversee health and safety-related training and presentations in the assigned area.
6. Identify and implement continuous improvement opportunities.
7. Proactively identify issues and suggest solutions.
8. Develop, implement, and maintain safe work procedures and promote high safety and health awareness.
9. Ensure the safe and efficient operation of the team.
10. Develop continuous improvement targets for the function and measure achievement within the assigned area.
11. Ensure the development and maintenance of up-to-date job procedures for all tasks performed within the team.
Requirements:
- Full Grade 12 School Certificate.
- Diploma in OHS.
- NEBOSH – Certificate in OHS will be an added advantage.
- Minimum of 5 years post-qualification experience, with at least 2 years in a mining or industrial environment and 3 years in a senior health and safety role.
- Working knowledge of OHS systems, preferably ISO45001:2018, NOSA based.
- Knowledge in incident investigation methodology such as ICAM, TapRoot, Fishbone, and 5 WHYs.
- Demonstrated success as an effective leader.
- Ability to lead a team safely and improve team safety awareness.
- High-level understanding of relevant legislation governing the Mining Industry.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
- Clean Class B or C manual Driver’s license.
