Job Description
Purpose
This role, part of the Mining Engineering team, focuses on addressing challenges related to grade reconciliation, process optimization, and blast movement monitoring. The position plays a crucial role in researching, developing, and implementing innovative projects in a technically demanding mining environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage special projects aligning with the mine's strategic goals and industry best practices.
- Conduct in-depth research and analysis on the latest mining technologies, emphasizing mining spatial data.
- Evaluate and propose improvements to current mining processes for enhanced efficiency, reduced costs, and improved safety.
- Develop and implement project plans, collaborating with cross-functional teams and ensuring timely completion.
- Maintain reporting tools, ensuring data quality, consistency, and recency.
- Prepare detailed reports and presentations for management summarizing research findings, project progress, and recommendations.
- Stay informed about advancements in mining technology, attending conferences, and building relationships with industry experts.
- Drive a culture of continuous improvement, promoting the adoption of new technologies and practices for operational excellence.
- Advise and support direct reports, providing training and development opportunities, particularly for Zambian employees.
- Attend planning meetings with mine production contractors and collaborate on daily, weekly, and monthly planning.
- Perform other duties as directed by the Senior Engineer and Chief Mining Engineer.
Qualifications and Skills:
- BEng/BSc in Mining Engineering.
- Strong proficiency in English, with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficient in 3D mining software like Surpac, Datamine (Studio RM), and Deswik.
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Office – Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Power BI.
- Ability to work with GIS software (e.g., QGIS) will be highly advantageous.
- Some knowledge of Python and SQL will be highly advantageous.
- Demonstrated ability to engage in hands-on problem-solving.
- Results-driven with a focus on delivering outcomes.
- Effective people management skills and the ability to lead a team.
Experience:
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in an open-pit mining environment, preferably copper.

Operational Requirements:
