Job Description:

Overall Job Purpose:

The Engineer, Projects Optimization role is a transitional position supporting the development and optimization of the Enterprise Nickel project at Kalumbila. It involves exposure to mining activities and is divided into two parts: (1) operational readiness and general project engineering during the initial project phase of the Enterprise Nickel deposit; (2) transition into operations involves moving towards an operational excellence and optimization role through the realization and support of continuous improvement projects.

Specific Job Responsibilities:

  1. Implementation of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to support mine site operations through information systems.
  2. Support problem-solving and implementation planning with an in-depth understanding of the mining business and key cost and business drivers.
  3. Ensure compliance with environmental, health, and safety legal requirements.
  4. Establish the Enterprise Project capability to provide expected operational deliverables through the deployment of relevant enabling systems.
  5. Support the Project team through the development, maintenance, and control of change management systems, knowledge management systems, and project monitoring and control systems.
  6. Strive to implement a sturdy Operations basis, ultimately enhancing the attainment of Operational Excellence.
  7. Interact with stakeholders and provide coaching assistance where necessary.
  8. Provide direct support to field operatives during the ramp-up phase.
  9. Assist in developing and/or maintaining relevant project management tools.
  10. Develop strong relationships with stakeholders along the nickel value chain.
  11. Lead continuous improvement projects, including Six Sigma and LEAN methodologies.
  12. Develop and nurture the use of modern data techniques to support operational readiness and operational systems.
  13. Identify, budget, cost, implement, and monitor the development of subprojects enhancing compliance, cost, performance, and/or quality.
  14. Lead continuous improvement projects by planning, leading, and facilitating improvement projects.
  15. Support the Mine Sites Continuous Improvement teams in providing coaching and direction.
  16. Develop and monitor budgets to ensure operating margins are met.
  17. Interact and collaborate with the mines site and senior corporate management within KML.
  18. Work with operating departments in the evaluation of ideas, apply organizational change strategies, and sustain initiatives.
  19. Improve site performance through benchmarking and identifying potential opportunities and initiatives.
  20. Find opportunities to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
  21. Promote the sharing of site successes across operations.
  22. Report on realized benefits, business objectives, and validate recognized gains on a standardized basis.
  23. Perform any other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Experience Required:

  • Minimum two years of experience with responsibilities in a project environment.
  • Minimum two years of experience in CI or an Operating Excellence environment using Lean, Six Sigma, or other CI processes.
  • Sophisticated user of Microsoft Suite®, especially Excel, PowerPoint, and Power BI.
  • Experience with Python, SQL, and data and statistical analytics is a strong asset.
  • Proven success implementing change and sustaining results in an operationally complex business.
  • Experience developing business cases and ability to communicate through multiple mediums.

Qualifications:

  • Full Grade Twelve (G12) certificate.
  • Degree in Mining, Engineering, Processing, or a related subject.
  • PMP, PRINCE2, or similar project management qualification is considered beneficial.
