Job Description:
Purpose:
To safely execute electrical maintenance and installation work according to prescribed standards and statutory requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
Operational:
- Adhere to all pertinent requirements, policies, procedures, and legal requirements pertaining to health, safety, environment, and quality, as well as any other regulations necessary by the company and relevant to the role and responsibilities.
- Manage and direct the day-to-day operations of the Electrical Section under your direct supervision to maximise efficient and safe production.
Installation:
- Install new electrical systems, and replace old, faulty, or redundant electrical systems as per the Company and vendor’s safety and quality specifications.
Electrical Protection:
- Ensure and document all electrical safety settings to conform to safety requirements.
- Ensure that all electrical equipment has the correct hardware interlock and safety parameter settings for effective and safe operation.
Maintenance:
- Adhere to the company's planned and preventative maintenance schedules and procedures.
- Effectively maintain the electrical equipment with minimal effect on plant production.
- Ensure that the relevant subordinates complete all electrical maintenance in accordance with the company schedules.
Reporting and Record-Keeping
- Compile detailed reports on all activities, plans, costs, and labour.
- Report all incidents immediately to the superintendent.
- Ensure that all safety logbooks are checked and signed according to procedure.
Stock Control:
- Ensure that stock levels of electrical equipment are maintained in the warehouse.
- Create new stock for all critical items to ensure minimal effect on production in the event of a failure.
Tools and Audit:
- Oversee the correct and safe usage of all hand tools within your section.
- Record and control all tool replacements.
- Maintain the highest safety standards on the condition and usage of all electrical test equipment.
Training and Development:
- Provide and schedule all necessary training for all employees to comply with all safety standards and statutory requirements.
- Identify the need for specialised training requirements within your area.
Transport:
- Manage and control the transport under your control.
- Ensure all requests for service are adhered to.
- Ensure no person under your supervision operates any equipment without an official permit.
Other Duties:
- Perform any other duties as directed by the Electrical Superintendent.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of a Grade 12 Certificate
- Electrical Craft Certificate
- EIZ & ERB Membership/Registration
- Valid LV Driver’s Licence
Experience:
- Minimum ten years’ experience in a Mining Process Plant environment.
- Excellent knowledge of LV systems, MCCs, and protection.
- Knowledge of LV and MV transformers.
- Knowledge of maintenance and repair of electrical motors.
- Knowledge of maintenance and repair of overhead cranes.
- Knowledge of maintenance & programming VSDs, soft starters, and DOL starters.
- Proficiency in the use of electrical measuring instruments.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings.
- Computer literate.
- Leadership or supervisory training courses.
- Experience with Siemens Gearless Mill Drives.
- Experience in ABB ACS MV & LV drives.
